KYFA - The Organization
KYFA was established in 2004 by about 12 football teams who decided to organise the first Under 18 competition in Kisumu. Due to the success of the Kisumu Champion's League the number of member teams and competitions increased. KYFA includes now more than 100 street football teams participating in 15 leagues. Most of them are single teams, established and led by young enthusiastic volunteers from Kisumu.
Besides creating an enabling environment for free and fair youth football competitions, KYFA decided to establish a training department that would contribute towards building the capacity of the youth football teams as an avenue for youth development. Currently it is running two training programmes targeting the youth coaches and youth leaders. Other initiatives include first aid clinics amongst others.
KYFA is a registered membership organisation guided by a constitution and strategic plan. A council, elected by the participating football teams representing the youth, is the policy making body, while a management team oversees the operations (competition and training). Each competition is governed by voluntary league committees elected by the participating coaches, captains, team managers and referees.
